CALLING ALL RESTAURANTS AND WING CHEFS FOR THE 16TH ANNUAL POCONO CHICKEN WING-OFF

BUSHKILL, PA – On Sunday, August 14, 2011, Fernwood Hotel and Resort will host the 16th Annual Pocono Chicken Wing-Off to benefit Monroe County Meals on Wheels from noon to 4:00 pm on the Fernwood Great Lawn. Festival attendees pay as they go for wings, beverages and other food. Proceeds from the wings sold go to benefit Monroe County Meals on Wheels, which receives over $16,000 from the event annually.

 

Wings are judged in four categories: Chef’s Choice, Most Original and the Grand Prizes, People’s Choice for Hottest Wing and People’s Choice for Best Tasting Wing. Each category winner receives an award plaque, radio and print advertising, billboards announcing the winners, and a $250 check for the winning entry.

 

Guest judges are celebrities and chefs with wing enthusiast attendees voting for "best wings." The event schedule includes contests, live music, craft and food vendors, and a Pepsi play area with giveaways. Mimi Michaels, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels, comments "Through volunteers, Meals on Wheels plans, supplies and delivers nutritious meals to the homebound who are unable provide for themselves. The Chicken Wing-Off is a 16 year Pocono Mountain tradition. Its success is attributed to the area restaurants and wing chefs that participate, sponsors, and Fernwood Hotel & Resort. This event is a reflection of how the Pocono community and area non-profits can join forces to make a difference and is our single largest fundraiser for the year." Mikels, continues, “This event would not be possible if not for Fernwood and the local restaurants and businesses who volunteer their time and donate their staff and wings to Meals on Wheels. They spend hours dishing out thousands of wings making it possible to provide for the homebound.”

Fernwood Hotel & Resort is a 440 acre four season resort located on Route 209 just minutes from the Delaware Water Gap with both villa and hotel accommodations.
